I don’t think my mom realized her efforts to convince me to choose my own path, free of the societal constraints she had faced at my age would send me on a multi decade love affair with horsepower.
From racehorses to race cars, my life would take a quirky path, one that led me away from the norms of my peers and into a time and place in motorsports history that has vanished into the mists of yesterday. My choices that landed me there at the time wasn’t intentional, far from it. It stemmed from cluelessness and a series of ‘it-seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time’ strung together.
But I was fortunate enough to end up at the likes of Bridgehampton Racecourse, Bryar Motorsports Park and my home track, Lime Rock Park.
After taking a job working for Lime Rock Park back in the late 70s, I would witness and learn many things, be privy to what it was like whenever you dealt with tens of thousands of fans, race teams, celebrities, news teams and more. 
You truly can’t make this stuff up.
But this isn’t about the big names who frequented the tracks during this time, no this is about us -the unseen people who were the engines of the place, who kept things running smoothly. We were the people who kept the place neat and clean, who sold you tickets, patched you up and drove the ambulances, and who rubbed elbows with household names as a simple fact of our day.
From Larry and the raccoon to pit poopsies and fireballs, this is the sometimes raucous, sometimes heartbreaking and always engaging story of a coming of age set in a race paddock, and the larger-than-life characters found there.
